How many hours of coaching do I get?

You receive as much support as you need to feel confident in your applications. Your Support Team works to ensure all time you and your coach spend is high value. Typical coaching time varies by package (see the pricing table above). Most coaching time you receive is your coach providing detailed written feedback on your drafts. You’ll do video calls at defined points – primarily for planning your writing – but we’ll schedule more as needed.

How do you select my Writing Coach?

We have over 100 amazing Writing Coaches with a wide range of backgrounds and interests. We handpick your coach based on your school list, ambitions, and personality. In the unlikely scenario you don’t mesh well with your coach, we’ll work with you to select a new one.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes. You can always upgrade your package as your needs change. Just keep in mind that it may result in a higher price than you would pay now as our prices change as deadlines approach (e.g., prices typically increase in September). You can contact your Student Success Manager about upgrading. You cannot downgrade your package.

What happens after I make a purchase?

We have a standard, yet flexible process that works for every family. Here’s what will happen to kick off your program:

You’ll receive a receipt via email and an email with instructions on next steps.
Students and parents will each fill out a questionnaire to help us get to know you a little better and begin the coach-matching process.
You’ll also schedule a 20-minute onboarding call with a Student Success Manager (SSM) to align on your goals, set a timeline, and learn how to use our platform.
We will take the information from your onboarding questionnaire to assign you a coach and during the onboarding call, we’ll get your first meeting scheduled with your coach.
After onboarding, the student will complete our Application Plan module before their first brainstorming call with the Writing Coach.
You’ll have your first call, where you build out and align on your most compelling content with your Writing Coach.
You’ll continue to follow your personalized timeline until you complete your applications.
Your SSM will continue to stay in touch with you for any needs that arise.

How many essays do I need to write?

It depends. Typically, the more selective schools you apply to, the more essays you’ll need to write. For less selective schools, you may only need to write the Common Application Essay and maybe 1-2 supplements per school. For more selective schools, you may write 1-8+ essays per school – writing 30-50+ essays across your applications. Prompt’s platform automatically creates a list of essays you need to write based on your school list.

Do we need another package for a program-specific essay at that school?

No. This is included in all of the school packages. Often, additional essays or portfolios are needed to apply to a specific school within a college. Examples include business school, engineering, nursing, computer science, art, theatre, dance, music, architecture, or design.

What colleges do students commonly apply to with Prompt?

Our students apply everywhere globally, with many acceptances at every top college every year. 98% of our students get into one or more of their top-choice colleges. About half of our students are applying to one or more Ivy or equivalent colleges. The other half are applying everywhere else. For example, a student we coached achieved their goal of getting a full scholarship to Mississippi State’s Honors College).

How involved can I be (or should I be) as a parent?

Parents don’t need to be involved as our program is designed specifically to work 1-on-1 with students. Parents can observe – attending calls in the background or reading drafts as they see fit. Parents are also asked to provide inputs via the parent form before the coaching process kicks off. If parents have any questions, they should communicate them with their Student Success Manager.

Do parents get a Prompt account?

Yes. Parent accounts are tied to student accounts. Parents can view outlines, the student timeline, and essay feedback. Parents also receive email notifications, such as when the Coach provides feedback or an essay is marked as complete.

Explain "98% of Prompt students get into one or more of their top-choice colleges".

We define "top choices" as any school that is a student's reach or target school. This is highly individualistic for each student, as some are shooting for Ivy League schools and some are not.

This number is based on admission data from the most recent year. Though we reach out to every family to provide a fair and accurate summary of results, families are not obligated to provide their results and may provide as many or few of their results as desired. We only include families who responded to our survey in the data, not the whole breadth of the students who work with us every year.
